The civil lawsuit, which was filed by the state of New York in 2018, accuses Trump of violating New York law through misusing funds from his namesake charity, The Donald J. Trump Foundation.
The state of New York alleges that Trump improperly used funds from his charity for business and political purposes. Specifically, Trump is being accused of misspending $2.8 million of his charity’s funds to settle legal disputes involving his business, as well as funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars to his presidential campaign. Trump has previously denied any wrongdoing and has accused New York of filing the complaint for political reasons.
