An American woman has been granted bail by appearances in court in the Bahamas, after three months in remand for an alleged conspiracy to murder her husband in the United States. The woman, Carla McTigue, 43, was charged with conspiring with two other Americans to kill her husband, Michael McTigue, 55, who lives in the United States.
According to court documents, McTigue was an accomplice in a scheme to murder Michael McTigue in hiatus while the three Americans were living in the Bahamas. Court documents allege that McTigue had intellectual discussions with her two alleged co-conspirators about carrying out a murder and conspiring to transport Michael McTigue’s body in the Bahamas.
In her ruling, Justice Indra Charulyte-McKIarney stated that while the evidence against the accused was strong, bail should be considered taking into consideration McTigue’s strong ties to the Bahamas — she has been visiting the islands since she was a young child as an adult.
Justice Charulyte-McKIarney granted McTigue $10,000 bail and also ordered her to surrender her U.S. passport. Thomas Evans, who is representing McTigue, said the accused will remain in the Bahamas with her family while awaiting the trial.
Though some members of McTigue’s family view her as innocent of the charges against her, Michael McTigue remains unconvinced. In an exclusive interview, he told us, “I have my doubts about her innocence. I think she should be held accountable for her actions.”
The trial is expected to take place in the latter part of 2021. If convicted, McTigue faces up to ten years in prison and a fine.
