After being a survivor of a harrowing attack by the radical Hamas group in Palestine, a 19-year-old woman named Dareen Amro traveled to Washington D.C. to share her story at the Washington Hebrew Congregation. The attack occurred at the end of July during the culture and music festival that takes place every year in Gaza called Injaz.
The attackers stormed the festival with rockets and guns, setting off explosions that left Amro in shock and tears as she ran for her life. After the attack, she vowed to tell the world what happened and what she endured. Amro’s story spread quickly and eventually reached the room where Amro was invited to share her story. As she was recounting her experience before the congregation, the emotion was palpable in the room for her to feel the empathy and support that was being offered by the synagogue.
