On the evening of Saturday, August 3rd, tragedy struck the City of Light. An attacker in Paris used a knife and hammer to target three people near the Eiffel Tower, leaving one dead and two injured.
The assailant, who has not been identified was taken into custody by nearby police officers. Officials have yet to determine a motive for the attack, though terrorism is not suspected.
The victim – a 29 year old male – was stabbed multiple times by the attacker before succumbing to his injuries. His two companions were also injured and brought to a nearby hospital. They are now recovering from what the French government has described as “non life-threatening injuries”.
The attack happened in front of numerous witnesses who described the scene as “horrifying”, many of whom claim to have seen the assailant drop his weapons and surrender to nearby police officers.

The sentiment is echoed by the French government which released a statement declaring “No terrorist will be allowed to disrupt the tranquility of the City of Light.”
